The Sony RX1Riii is here… and it costs $5,100. Yep, for a fixed-lens, full-frame point-and-shoot, that’s either absolute insanity or serious camera flex. Watch the full video on my Youtube Channel at:
In this video, I break down whether this ultra-compact powerhouse is actually worth the price tag—or if it’s just Sony showing off for the 1% of photographers with deep pockets and a desire to flex.
The fact of the matter is it’s hard to see the justification in spending over $5000 for a point and shoot camera, no matter how great the megapixels may be. There are several things that are concerning about the camera at this price range:
Lens- it has the exact same lens as it’s predecessor which is over a decade old. That’s astoundingly basic.
Sensor- it has the same sensor at the Sony A7CR, which is a great sensor. But you can get it for half the price if you get the A7CR.
Slow FPS- 5 Frames per Second in 2025 is nothing to get excited about.
Video Mode- is archaic by 2025 standards. 4K at 30P is basic by even smartphone standards.
This camera is simply a flex. It feels like Sony just ripped the guts out of the Rx1Rii’s that they had left over and replaced them with some newer tech, and then released it as the RX1Riii….but with a migh higher price tag. It just doesn’t feel worth it to me at all. But what do you think??
Drop your thoughts in the comments—would you buy this thing, or would you rather buy a couple of used A7 IVs and still have money left for lenses?
