Frequently Asked Questions

One Time or Multiple Shoot Projects related questions

*Who Pays for the Shoots? For 1 Time Shoots or Multiple Shoot Projects this is a collaboration meaning we come together and pool resources to make a great shoot/project happen that is mutually. beneficial. Typically this means the model is responsible for the agreed upon wardrobe/theme expenses and I’m responsible for the photography and editing of the shoot(s). If the model is local to me then we’ll meet at an agreed upon location and shoot. If the model isn’t local then I’ll travel to where they are if the shoot or project is worthwhile. The model also has the option of traveling to where I am as well.

*Where are You (Jason) Located? I am based in the Los Angeles area but travel all over the world. So you can either come to L..A. area for us to arrange a shoot or you can connect with me when I’m out traveling somewhere in the world.

*Am I Paying You (Jason) to Do These Shoots? No, if it’s a project or shoot that I’m interested in doing for a collaborative reason then I will waive my typical shooting fee to do them. The model will also not be paid for the same reason.

*What Do I Get in Return for Doing the Shoot/Project? You will receive images from the shoot(s) as well as the opportunity to create social media content with me while we are doing the shoot(s). On select occasions I will also make videos for my social media purposes where you will also be tagged for the work we create together.

*What if I Don’t Have a Specific Concept in Mind but just Want to Work Together? If you don’t know exactly what you want to do but want to shoot with me, then I can give you some ideas based upon your look and the kind of work that I would like to create.

*I Have Little to No Experience, does that matter? No, in fact many of the models I’ve worked with over the years had little to no experience when they started with me. While experience definitely can be a plus for some, it can also be a negative for others based their previous experiences and what they have been taught. What really matters the most is a willing attitude and a desire to create unique work.

*Why Do You (Jason) Do Collaborations? I continue to do collaborations even though I’m a full time professional because I believe they allow for the best creative experience. When I’m paid to do a shoot I am hired to create the work that the paying client wishes to be created. So while my creative imprint is definitely on any paid work that I do, I still am not able to let my vision truly unfold like I can when I’m doing a collaboration shoot or project. The inherent nature of a collaboration also means we are both invested heavily in making it work. As such the effort and determination from both parties tends to lend itself towards a very successul outcome. Collaborations also provide me with potential content for social media which helps me to promote my artwork as well as my separate paid work that I do.

*What Kind of Shoots are You (Jason) Most Interested in Doing? I’ve been shooting professionally for over 15 years and have done a wide array of work in that time. So I’m looking to create bold and unique work. Typically this means shooting in very unique and out of the way locations and thinking very creatively about the theme and concept for the shoot as well. I love props and fun ideas. Wardrobe options tend to skew towards creating our own looks through using props and wardrobe from what we find in the area we are shooting, or preparing ahead of time with looks like bodypainting, using mica powder etc. And the reason for this is if we create a look (not something you buy online or at a department store), it TRULY is UNIQUE and can not be replicated by other people. I don’t like my work to be derivative. I earnestly strive to create art, not just a pretty girl in an Amazon outfit with nice lighting.

*I Would Prefer to Shoot a More Traditional Look. What if I Want to Shoot Together but Don’t Want to Do Any of the Bold and Crazy Looks You’re Talking About? I’d be more than happy to do that for you! Just let me know and we can set up a consult to do a paid shoot so I can capture your exact vision that you wish to create.

*Is there nudity in your shoots? It depends on the concept that we agree to shoot. Typically there is no nudity in the finished product as we both want to create content that is classy and can also be posted online for social media and marketing purposes. When we are creating looks using outfits that we create from plants or props, or when we use body painting or a similar idea, there will be times you will be nude on the shooting set itself (having bodypaint applied, applying created outfits to yourself etc) but that will not be portrayed in the final product. This is about creating art in a professional environment. I like to overprepare people before we shoot, so by the time we are on location, there are no surprises. We will discuss all parameters of the shoot prior to shooting so you are fully prepared and know what to expect. That’s one reason I ask your level of comfort on the contact form so I know what you are comfortable doing. You can also ask to have a closed set when we shoot if that makes you feel more comfortable as is done in the filmmaking industry.

Obviously the more comfortable you are the more creative options it provides for us to work. Over the years I’ve done shoots with models covered in honey in the California desert, covered in mud in the Amazon, using shaving cream to create a pin up style outfit etc. Most of the time people wouldn’t have a clue how the outfit was created as I’ll also supplement certain aspects of it in Photoshop after the shoot as well. For an idea of what these concepts look like as a finished product, check out the link to the “CREATE A LOOK” ALBUM located above.

*Is this opportunity for female models only? No, male models are welcome to apply as well. However the majority of my social media audience as well as workshop attendees tend to favor when I shoot female models and as such that is why the majority of my work reflects female models.
