New York State of Mind

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my workshop in New York last year with the beautiful Megan Ward.  We were about 2 blocks from Times Square and found this construction site set up in the middle of the street.  So using some remote video lighting we simply started shooting while getting honked at, the models were getting cat-called, cars were almost crashing....etc.  Just a normal workshop with me!  Can't wait to get back there!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/60 sec at f/4.5, 16mm at ISO 1600, flash fired.  Taken at 9:07pm.

Tempting the Gators in the Everglades

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken by Huguette Stachewitsch at my worskhop this past Wednesday while we were in the Everglades for my workshop.  We went down this dirt road and found this gorgeous body of water and set up for some shots.  The gators started coming out and one in particular was very keen on me...of course that could have been because I was pretty keen on him as well.

Everytime I spoke some Spanish to the Gator he would gain more interest in me....who knows maybe he's a Cuban gator.  I have video and more pics to share from this experience but it was a first at one of my workshops...having fun with alligators!!

Angel in the Alley by Jason Lanier

This image was taken during my Chicago workshop in September 2012 with the beautiful Tyler Vines as our model.  We did this shoot at 1AM in an alleyway in Chicago....we were exhausted but definitely wanted to nail this shoot before we finished.  This was shot using a video light for front light and a triggered flash from behind.  Thanks again to my wonderful group for joining me on this adventure!

Shadow Figures at the Eilean Dolan Castle in Scotland

This is my shadow shooting at the Eilean Dolan Castle in Scotland.  I shot this by using the backlight from the castle lights to light my shadow, and yes I did pose the shot...I look sexy for a shadow don't I?  Well, this was shot on a self timer with my Sony Handycam, and yes, I do set the exposure levels on that little thing as well.

The Eilean Dolan Castle is located near the Isle of Skye and the whole place is just amazing.  Hope you like it!

I Told You My Head Is A Reflector....

This is a production image provided to me by Debbie Sherpenbeck shot at my Chicago workshop in September of this year.  As you can see it's late at night outside (probably around 10pm at this point), my pants are wet having played in the fountains down in the park in Chicago, and my head is lit up light Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer as I rifle through my bag looking for something.  Thanks for sharing the shot Debbie!  I'm coming back to Chicago next year as well as many other places, starting with Washington DC next month!  To see all my workshops and to register click on the link below....come on, do it now!

Making a Photographer Train in the Backwoods of West Virginia

Can you say, "Deliverance?"  This image was taken by my wonderful friend Faye Santos during my workshop in October in Morgantown West Virginia while we were shooting around 10pm in the backwoods of Vanden King's Farm...literally we were in the middle of nowhere.  I of course had the spot that everyone wanted, SO, the ladies just decided to converge and sit on me instead of politely waiting their turn.  Read more below....

Next Workshops in 2013:

http://www.eventbrite.com/org/1864370877

As anyone will tell you who's attended one of my workshops, we become very close, very quickly, and I guess we are all like some sort of a dysfunctional loving family.  I can't wait to get back to WV in April and October of 2013, and can't wait to see all of you guys in all my many workshop locations this year!

PS....I can't wait to explain this shot to my wife....:)

Workshop Stills from South Carolina

This is a production still from my workshop yesterday in South Carolina.  We are having an amazing time and had to battle the COLD yesterday here in Myrtle Beach.  It was worth it though as we did a shoot at the Atalaya down in Murrels Inlet.  It's an awesome place!

Jason Lanier Shooting in the Tracy Arm Fjord in Alaska

This is a shot actually taken by one of my sons (don't know which one they are triplets) of me while I was shooting in the Tracy Arm Fjord in Alaska.  My boys loving grabbing my cameras and taking shots...usually of each other or me!  My little guy did this with my Nikon D7000, while I was shooting with my D3.  It's never too early to get a camera in their hands!
