Shooting Ring Shots on the Edge of a fountain, images for Jason Lanier Wedding Photography

www.jasonlanierweddingphotography.com

This production image was taken at my wedding for Dan and Stephanie at the Lake Oak Meadows Winery in Temecula, California.  I actually tested other similarly weighted items in the same location before placing the rings there to make sure that they wouldn't be in any danger of falling.  When you combine the shine from the Rotolights with the water cascading over the wedding rings...it makes for a seriously cool shot.  I'll share the finished shot in a little while...

Romance at Squires Castle at my destination wedding in Ohio

www.destinationphotographerneeded.com

This image was taken during my First Reveal for Matt and Jenna at Squires Castle in Ohio.  As you can see it was wintertime, but the couple didn't mind braving the cold for a First Reveal so they could make the most out of their time with me.  I find that a lot of destination wedding couples will elect to either do a First Reveal or Couple Shoot after the wedding so they can capture great images of their special destination wedding. Do you like the wedding rings hanging in the tree?

Manly Harbor Australia, Destination Wedding by Jason Lanier

www.destinationweddingphotographerneeded.com

This image was taken at my wedding for Mike and Melodie in Manly Beach which is about 45 minutes out of Sydney.  During the ceremony it started pouring and everyone started worrying about what impact it would have on the wedding photography.  Having an extensive landscape photography background, I smiled and said, "Well, if the weather turns this could actually be AMAZING!"  Well, once the rain dissipated we got the most beautiful clouds to come in and give us great shots.  You can actually see the raindrops still sitting on the railing because we shot this about 5 minutes after the rain stopped.

Wait for Me!...at a Catalina Island Destination Wedding

This image was taken at my destination wedding for Philip and Randi at Catalina Island just off the coast of Southern California.  It was a beautiful day for a wedding and we definitely made the most of it!  This was taken during the First Reveal before the ceremony...and I have to say I'd be hard pressed for find a bride more daring with her dress more than Randi...she really made it possible to get these shots!  Thanks Philip and Randi for letting me be part of your amazing day!

Hawaiian Weddings in Maui Ruins

www.hawaiianweddingsmaui.com

This shoot was done of a bride in Maui, Hawaii at one of the old Sugar cane factory buildings that was built in the 1800's.  Something that I love to do with my brides is to incorporate the surroundings and background into my imagery that will someday be the artwork in their home.  It's one of the main reasons why I LOVE shooting destination weddings...you get the opportunity to shoot in such amazing places.  I've personally shot in Hawaii alone more than 20 separate times...I just LOVE it there!

This image was taken at my wedding for Aaron and Daryl at the Mosteller Mansion in Hickory North Carolina where I shot one of my destination weddings.  They have a beautiful bridal room and I was so honored to shoot the wedding there for Aaron and Daryl...I just love that couple.  For this image I stood on top of a chair to get the higher perspective which I think really worked for this shot.  Hope you like it!

Laguna Beach Canyon Bridals at a LDS Temple Wedding

www.ldstempleweddings.com

www.jasonlanierweddingphotography.com

This image was taken at my wedding for Mike and Kristina for my LDS Temple Wedding.  After they were married at the Newport Beach Temple we went down to Laguna Beach for a shoot.  While driving down there we passed through Laguna Canyon, and when I looked out my window and saw the scenery I took the time to take us out and get some shots.  It's one of the things I really love about LDS weddings...you have a large amount of time between the temple ceremony and the reception, so you have opportunities for images like this...

Weddings in Disney- Mickey and Minnie Cutting the Wedding Cake

Disney is the only place where I've ever been able to shoot with characters as part of the wedding...truly a unique and awesome experience!  This image was taken at my wedding for Christina and Ransen at Disneyland for their wedding in disney and was done while the bride and groom were preparing for the cake cutting.  I just love how you can sense the excitement from these two even though technically you can't see the looks on their faces....well, not the humans at least....:)

Bride in Oklahoma at a Jason Lanier Workshop

www.jasonlanierworkshops.com

This image is of the beautiful bride Sidney White from my Oklahoma Workshop.  She's getting married soon and came along with my workshop attendee Peggy Hogan.  Something I like to do at my workshops is to give my attendees the opportunity to have someone they know used as the model for the shoot.  This is only allowed for my attendees so it really is an extra perk for them...and for any of you who attend in the future!

We found this little place in small town near Earlsboro or Shawneee and it's straight out of a movie set.  It's one of the reasons why I leave time during my workshops for driving around and scouting locations.  Many photographers truly miss out because they are in such a rush to shoot that they don't get the right location paired with the right time of day and the correct lighting situations.  This is all the type of stuff you learn at one of my workshops.

Simply put, if you slow down you will immediately be 200% better than you currently are today.  As I said in a recent post, the BEST photographers in the world are the most PATIENT photographers in the world. Many times at my workshops this is a wake up call for many of my attendees as they are the accustomed to shooting at a frenetic pace.  Believe me from experience, once you slow down you start to see more than what is directly in front of your eyes.  You start to see flaws in the image, you can correctly assess lighting conditions, you can make sure that you are able to shoot there uninterrupted, and most of all, you willl be prepared for the shoot.

A RUSHED PHOTOGRAPHER IS A BAD PHOTOGRAPHER.

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/3200 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 64, flash did not fire.  Shot with complete natural lighting.

High Key Soft Lighting during Bridals

This shot was taken during a shoot I did in Arizona earlier this month.  High key lighting can be beautiful if done correctly. And in my opinion it can be especially effective if you don't use it as the only method of shooting.  This was shot using light from the window, all natural lighting, no flash or video lights.  This technique can be especially effective when you're shooting the getting ready shots for brides.  I softened the image by pulling the veil over her face.  The hard part is making sure you focus on the eye.  If you don't the shot will not look right.  Hope you like it!

Gimme a Smooch! by Jason Lanier

This image was taken at my wedding for Delano and April Howell at the Odyssey in Los Angeles just last night during the ceremony.  We had an amazing time and I'm so grateful we were able to be there for such a wonderful family and wedding.  Halfway through the ceremony the little Flowergirl wanted to be like the bride and started making kissy faces which was priceless.  Most people didn't see it because she was hidden behind some of the bridesmaids and the bride, but I snuck around from behind and shot this in between everyone.  Hope you like it!

Next Workshop: Las Vegas, Nevada- right after WPPI

Camera settings: Nikon D700, 1/60 sec at f/5.6, 300mm at ISO 4000, flash fired.  Taken at 7:21pm on February 15, 2013 by Jason Lanier at the Odyssey in Los Angeles.

Bridal Portraits inside a hotel bathroom

This image was taken of my beautiful bride April Howell yesterday about 1 hour before she married her husband Delano. This was taken while she was finishing up her make up.  I used the light from the hotel bathroom to light her face and just asked her to turn and look to her left a little.  I shot this with my 85mm, and then in Photoshop I blackened the sides of the image a little to blend out some of the background from behind her.  It's like doing a portrait session in the middle of a lot of wedding day action!  You are beautiful April!

Flowergirl by Jason Lanier

This image was taken yesterday at my wedding for Delano and April before the wedding.  Our bride was getting her make up done, and I was setting up the room I captured this shot of the little flowergirl resting her head as she waited. This was shot with natural light coming in from the window and is completely unposed.  Hope you like it!

The Anti Bridezilla

This is an image I took of the former Miss Colorado Jamie Dukehart-Conti in the hills of Los Angeles.  Brides are quite often so rushed and frazzled on the day of their wedding that I thought it would be a blast to a shoot showing the other side of what a bride can be.  Completely cool, not worrying about their dress, and just not having a care in the world. Hope you like it!
